Grant Writing for Artists

I specialize in assisting:

  • Artist collectives
  • Performance ensembles
  • Individual artists
  • Theaters & concert halls
  • Mental health projects
  • Community-building initiatives

Read below to learn about my services and pricing. I offer sliding-scale fees as well, for those currently experiencing hardship or oppression.

The World Needs Artists!

Grants serve as opportunities for artists to find funding for their work, and I offer my talents as a grant writer and consultant to guide in this process. I bring expertise from multiple arenas: working in mental health non-profits as both a peer supporter and social worker, a freelance writing career, a spirit of advocacy and social justice, and lifelong dedication to musical study and teaching.

When I assist an artist, I take time to internalize a big picture of who they are, what are committed to in their creative work. In all grant writing work I produce, I focus on conveying that vision to the funder. Note that funders like to see a direct impact on the community, where there is a public component, an opportunity for teaching and learning, or an end product that has a lasting, long-term impact.

Recent Successes!

I won QCA's 2022 New Work Grant to put on a 1-woman show featuring viola music and personal storytelling. I will be premiering the event on October 14, 2022 at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) in Jamaica, Queens, NYC!

I wrote a winning grant for classical violist Ann Roggen, who received a 2022 Arts Fund grant to put on a 3-concert series featuring viola works written by 20th & 21st century BIPOC women composers!

I successfully wrote the annual RFP for Dorchester Senior Citizens Center, to ensure that their funding remains for the next fiscal year!

Concept Development / Power Prospectus

If you are just getting started with grant writing, we can start by developing ideas for a  project that will have a good chance of being funded. I will create a 1-page Power Prospectus, which you can use to quickly promote your project idea.

Editing Services

If you're already working on a grant application, I can help with:

Proofreading: Correcting spelling and grammar: 5 cents per word ($50 minimum)

Developmental Edit: A more intensive edit where I provide comprehensive feedback on what you've written, so it can be further refined: 10 cents per word ($100 minimum)

  • This includes feedback on how to make your application most compelling to the funder, based on what they are looking for
  • I also provide sensitivity editing, to avoid any implicit bias, stereotyping or problematic language. This is my expertise as a social worker and mental health advocate.

Funding Strategy

I can search grant datbases to find grants that are a good fit for your project idea. The cost of a full search would be determined in an initial consultation. If you are on a budget, I can work for an hourly rate.

hourly consultation | $90/hour

No matter where you are in the grant writing process, I can assess your progress and provide focus and clarity. I can offer suggestions on how to refine your project ideas, and I can keep track of your progress and provide support. I can also review any writing you've done and offer on-the-spot feedback.
